LESSON 1
ALGEBRA: Use of Letters in Mathematics 1
HISTORY
Algebra is the use of combination of letters and numbers to write a mathematical statement. The word 'Algebra' was first used in a book written by the mathematician Mohammed Musa al Khorwarizmi titled Al-jabr wa'l Mulqabalah.
MATHEMATICAL STATEMENT
This is a statement which involves quantities(amounts) and their relation (equals to, less than, greater than).
Example:
Lets check if this example is a mathematical statement:
ACTIVITY
Do your mathematical statements satisfies the conditions in the definition above?

MATHEMATICAL STATEMENT
This is a statement which involves quantities(amounts) and their relation (equals to, less than, greater than).
Example:
John's daily transport allowance is the same as Jane's feeding allowance.
Lets check if this example is a mathematical statement:
Quantities(amounts) - Amount of John's transport allowance and Jane's feeding allowance.
Relation - the same (equal to)
ACTIVITY
Make five(5) mathematical statements and post them in the COMMENT to this post. Make sure you include your name and email address. Every COMMENTS will be replied.
Do your mathematical statements satisfies the conditions in the definition above?
Congratulation! You've completed
this lesson. Now let's go to LESSON 2: ALGEBRAIC SENTENCE.
